We were thrilled to see some of our heroes be honored by the Nobel for economics (let’s not call it economic science, not yet): Robert Schiller of Yale and Eugene Fama of the University of Chicago .  Later, we watched the press conferences that each man gave at his respective university.  Our respect and admiration for one rose even more, while our appreciation of the other fell markedly.  Robert Schiller took very little credit for himself.  Instead, he named each and every one of his collaborators and proudly gave them credit.  He also credited his wife for her counsel and shrewd evaluation of his work.  Wow.  Eugene Fama, on the other hand, as they say, took all the credit for himself.  Not one word of praise or thanks went to, say, Kenneth French, his collaborator on who-knows-how-many research papers.  Never mind Fama’s wife.
