NICO
Say, Alec, you know we’re really not supposed to be here in this playground.
ALEC
Oh, yeah? Why not?
NICO
Well, we’ve been coming here for sixty years, and just because our appearance hasn’t changed doesn’t mean we have to come here all the time. Somebody’s gonna figure it out one of these days. We oughta be careful.
ALEC
Yeah, but look at us: we haven’t aged at all. We’ve passed for little kids all our lives; nobody’s gonna know. They’re just gonna think think our parents are just around the corner someplace. This is New York; nobody pays attention.
NICO
Right, I forgot; you know I’m getting forgetful. I always think we look like grown-ups. After all, I’m sixty-three and you’re, what, sixty-five?
ALEC
Please, I’m only sixty-four. Besides it’s the only place with benches that don’t have all kinds of bums sleeping on them and smelling like garbage.
NICO
Don’t forget we gotta call for take-out; there’s nothing in the fridge. The delivery guy from the Shake Shack has got to wonder by now why we just push the money under the door all the time and tell him to leave the food; we’d better call a different place.
ALEC
(sitting down on a park bench with his feet dangling off the edge)
Yeah, well, those burgers are too rich for me anyway. Besides, I’m tired; I just want a place to sit quietly and listen to the birds.
NICO
Remember what happened with the birds the last time we sat down to rest in a park. They attacked us; turkey vultures, twice our size! Good thing that big nanny blasted him with her umbrella.
ALEC
Oh, yeah, she was the lady whose kids we beat at marbles over at Sheridan Square.
NICO
Yeah, and you made me give them back.
ALEC
Nah, they were cheap marbles. Say, Nico, did you ever wonder how we got this far without anybody ever figuring it out?
NICO
I know, it’s great, isn’t it? I mean, we would’ve been toast without the Internet. The fact that we could do everything online, shopping, banking, investments, the works; never had to leave the house. Amazing.
ALEC
You know, one of us should write this up; I bet it would make a great story.
